On Saturday we launched the Coffee & Conversations Book Club at the Connection on Kirani James Blvd. Twelve women braved the inclement weather to discuss the guiding principles and direction of the club and suggested books for reading. It was agreed that at the initial stage, we would focus on our stories – books from Grenada, the Caribbean, and Diaspora. For our next meeting on 13 October, we will be discussing our first book, That Time in Bogles, and the author has agreed to join us later in the meeting for a Q+A.
Book Excerpt
In the early 1980s, a Grenadian boy travels from the mainland across the seas to spend his Easter vacation with his cousins in Bogles, Carriacou. He is surprised to find himself in a community that seems to have been frozen in time. But even in the middle of a tough dry season, he experiences and enjoys the deep traditions of the Sister Isle. Similarities and differences between the cultural practices of Grenada and Carriacou come to light as Daniel is quickly embraced by the people of Bogles.
That Time in Bogles can be purchased directly from the author, David. E. Ambrose for the price of $30 until the end of September. From 1 October, it will be sold at $40. David can be reached via email at ambrose.david.e@gmail.com or you can give him a call at 418-5349.
