a little inspiration and an event reminder

My mother has and continues to be a source of encouragement and strength to me. As a child growing up, she worked tirelessly the way single mothers tend to do. It was important to her that we got the life she never had and so she set us on a path to experience the best future possible. And it’s easy to simplify all she did in the last sentence, but watching her hitchhike to work to ensure that we went to school showed me that her comfort took second place to us getting an education. Seeing her pretend she was not hungry so that we could eat the little bits of food she was able to scrape together made her a combination of Mother Teressa and Wonder Woman rolled into one. Her thrift, efficiency, and household-economics still blow me away to this day.

We’re all grown now and living our lives, making her proud in our own ways and I would venture to say, showing her that those sacrifices were worth it. And I am now able to watch her move from the stage of living for her children to living for herself. It’s lovely to see how this has changed her. She’s taken the time to do the things she has wanted to do, pursue new hobbies, spend money on herself without feeling guilty and live in a way that does not center around our needs.

She surprised me a few years ago when she started a jewelry making small business, a talent I did not even know she had (apparently she did not but Pinterest brought it out) and now she is surprising me again by going back into the classroom…. in her sixties. Yes, my mama is one of those women who feel they aren’t too old to dream another dream, pursue another passion and become the best versions of themselves by unleashing their innermost desires. Ma, I celebrate you. You are amazing and you are definitely gold to me.

Mom – studying and researching ahead of class tomorrow

I’m sharing not just to show off, but to inspire you to action, encourage you to start dreaming, start doing and hopefully nudge you in the directions of your dreams. Ladies, no matter your age, you can make steps to pursue your dream and create the life you crave.

So the second installment of Cocktails & Conversation comes up tomorrow. You can still register if you have not. In this installment, we’ll be discussing intimacy, relationship and all the things women want to know about men, not from me, not from your girlfriends or the other women present, but from a man. Come ready with your questions and don’t be afraid to share them. He’s definitely ready! This session will be followed up with a conversation on why our stories matter and how we should honor them. Come down to Whisper Cove and spend some time in the fellowship of women. I’d love to have you. I am still amazed at that relationships and friendships that have been formed between myself and some of the women from the last event. We’ve been spending much time together, encouraging, building and nurturing each other to unleash our innermost selves and create lives that are blissful, brilliant and bold. A few of the women even came together to start a business. How epic and dope is that?!  You can register HERE if you’d like to join us. The cost is EC $54 and includes a cocktail and a meal. I hope to see you and I wish you a happy week.

That is so cool! Your mom is an amazing woman. Most people think when you get older, your brain cells die. Quite the opposite. Thank goodness. You should be very proud. I love your hair by the way 🙂

You mama has inspired me even more so. I’m at a bit of a crossroads where I’m continuing to explore and do things that I didn’t have the opportunity to do when I was younger. It is NEVER too late to pursue your passions. I love your blog layout, too.

Mom is show off worthy, kudos to her. I’m a fan of any woman that lives life on her own terms. Raise your kids and then live life for you. As women we focus on our families so much we forget we have dreams.

Wow that’s awesome. My mother went back to school in her 30s and finished with her master’s degree when I was in HS. It was a long process, but it was an inspiration for us. You’re right, it’s never too late to start living your dream.
